Avengers: Infinity War

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has made it very clear at this point that the comics are a base for their stories but that they are delivering their own takes on them and this will be the same in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’. The idea will borrow heavily from multiple storylines such as the iconic ‘Infinity Gauntlet’ by Jim Starlin which started it all and Jonathan Hickman’s 2012 run of ‘Infinity,’ but the film’s story is clearly looking to be its own.

As to how different it will be, especially when it comes to the source material, Mark Ruffalo states:

“… it’s so different from the comic books. There’s elements that are clearly the same but when you really start to get into the story everything changes. Planet Hulk was a big influence for [Thor: Ragnarok], and the idea, the inkling of World War Hulk starts to… I read that way before doing this and there’s some interesting stuff in there, but honestly, nothing so far directly related to this… This one we’re like, in new territory really”

Honestly, I feel that they shouldn’t try to mirror the comics too closely with this story. The MCU is set up so differently from Earth-616 continuity in the comics that it would make sense to be inspired by it but impossible to follow it. There just isn’t enough history or characters to make it entirely accurate, especially with only a fraction of the cosmic aspect having been explored at this time.

Do you wish that ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ was set to retell one of the “Infinity” story arcs entirely or glad that the stories will just inspire the film? What scenes do you want the studio to include in the upcoming movie? Share your thoughts below, True Believers!
