With ‘Game of Thrones‘ on a bit of a hiatus until the final season returns to the small screen in 2019, some fans are getting a bit desperate for their fix. Fan theories about the show are certainly nothing new, but a new theory that has popped up after a Super Bowl commercial aired last weekend has brought a swift response from the ‘Game of Thrones’ actor featured therein.
The commercial in question featured Peter Dinklage, who portrays Tyrion Lannister on ‘GoT,’ hawking Doritos as he lip-syncs a rap song rather expertly. The fan theory aspect comes into play when you see that Dinklage is set amongst a background featuring a lot of fire – because the Doritos chips are hot, you see, but some fans are theorizing that the setting of the commercial could indicate that Tyrion is secretly related to the Dragonborn bloodline.
Dinklage, for his part, was quick to step up to the plate in a good-natured way and make a statement about the matter:
“I love every single theory the fans of our show have, because they’re so much fun. They get to show the dedication and love they have for the show, but you have to understand that it is a Doritos commercial. It’s not ‘Game of Thrones.’ So [fans] are sort of stretching the limit with that theory when you’re branching out to Frito-Lay commercials. But I say that with all love and respect. Please, I love them. I love the fan theories that they have until the show is finally over.”
That settles that, then; despite some pre-existing evidence that may have been indicating otherwise (also a bit of a fan theory there as well), the commercial doesn’t appear to have any ‘Game of Thrones’ undertones to it.
