last jedi han solo funeral

Jason Fry is penning the novelization of ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi‘ and one of the new scenes which it will include has the funeral of Han Solo. The loss of Solo was one area that was tragically a missed point in the feature film though one which would have been hard to shoehorn in and still the story which we ended up seeing. Rian Johnson was directly involved with helping Fry craft the novel and wanted to help add a few scenes which he wanted to be canon but couldn’t fit in the film due to the already high run time.

While most of these additions sound quite welcome, there is one which might throw off fans depending on where they insert it.

According to Fry:

“Rian Johnson and I had an amazing conversation. We got to write entirely new scenes for the book. Han Solo’s funeral, Rose and Paige Tico together and further explorations of the fascinating world of Canto Bight, to name just a few.”

Actually reading about Rose and Paige Tico together to see how these siblings got along sounds incredible! The entire thought of putting in a funeral for Han Solo which might give a reason for Lando to show up is something that many of us would have liked to have seen and will at least enjoy reading about. Tha idea of exploring Canto Bight, though, will have a mixed response from fans.

Often cited as the piece of the film which could have been cut out entirely or shorter, it feels like exploring more of this would have to take place before or after Rose and Finn were there due to the already convoluted time frame which was available here.

It’ll be interesting to see what other sequences might be added when the novel drops on March 6th, 2018.
