We’re rapidly approaching the April 13th, 2018, the release date of ‘New Mutants‘ and to celebrate we’ve got a new image to share with you as well as a fun snippet from director Josh Boone. The movie was set to launch a planned trilogy of films though with Disney having bought out Fox, we all know that the future is in flux, making this frustrating to get excited about. On the one hand, the ‘New Mutants’ have some great stories and the idea of horror movies dealing with mutants is exciting! On the other, we might get an incomplete story if Disney decides to not pursue the two planned follow up films.
Still, let’s take a look at this new image which shows off from left to right Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik, Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane, Blu Hunt on the floor as Mirage, Charlie Heaton as Cannonball, and Henry Zaga as Sunspot.
In the movie, we’ll see these five mutant teenagers having been abducted and thrown into what appears to be an asylum where they are being studied and potentially experimented upon. Not quite the heroic outing that we’ve seen other mutants go on and according to Boone:
“These kids could care less about being X-Men. They’re so (messed) up and have had such horrible things happen, they’re just trying to figure out how to get out of this situation. We just tried to pull this back and make it performance- and character-driven, and more grounded and credible than X-Men movies ever are.”
Clearly, a great reason as to why we aren’t seeing mutants that want to be X-Men even though they’re likely going to be weighing in on more of the heroic side.
