hellboy

While I’m okay with the fact that comic book movies are becoming a dime a dozen, there is always concern that over-saturation could lead to audiences losing interest. Thankfully, films like ‘Hellboy‘ plan on differentiating itself from the rest to help not only break up the monotony but also to find a way to stand out on its own merits and ideas. While R-Rated comic movies have found massive success in the likes of ‘Logan’ and ‘Deadpool,’ this one is really going to follow that formula but still be unique upon itself.

Let’s take a look at what the future Hellboy himself David Harbour had to say on how they’re making the film:

“These movies have been of a certain brand. With Deadpool and Logan, they are trying to do different things. So we are trying to do our own brand of that. I was really excited by that concept — to make a real monster movie that’s dark and scary and about the end of the world.”

Standing out in a crowd of comic movies while also being a reboot which has a passionate fan base means that the odds are stacked against the production team. Thankfully, this will be a “real monster movie” with Hellboy having a reason to delve into horror and not just violence to earn that R rating.

While many of us would have loved to see an end cap to Guillermo del Toro’s films that would have given us a solid trilogy, I’m excited about the future and only hope that while ‘Hellboy’ is going to be different and that it will also give us a cinematic universe of different films.

Variety has a fun little clip that fans should check out to hear directly from Harbour himself!
