Is Netflix hoping to really make spirits “Bright” this Christmas? It appears so, as the streaming service is releasing its highest profile original films yet on December 22nd, ‘Bright’ a buddy cop film like no other. In this film, humans co-exist in a world with mythological creatures like fairies, elves, centaurs and, yes, orcs. Will Smith plays human officer Daryl Ward, who is partnered with Joel Edgerton‘s orc, Nick Jakoby, and seeing as this is a cop movie… and a Will Smith movie to boot… they are mismatched and don’t get along.
Smith’s ‘Suicide Squad’ collaborator David Ayer directed the film from a script by Max Landis (‘Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency’).
Want a taste of what to expect? In this first clip, we see Smith and Edgerton’s characters squabbling over an orcish song that comes on the radio.

Hmmm. Prison joke. Hilarious. Never been done before. Kudos.
This next clip is much more cryptic. It’s hard to tell exactly what’s been going on, but check it out for a taste of the more serious side of ‘Bright’.

Just to clarify, the endangered figure in this clip is Lucy Fry as Tikka, an elf, who comes to possess an ancient magical wand, which leads to her falling under the protection of Ward and Jakoby.
Netflix made headlines in March 2016, when it paid an unprecedented $90 million for ‘Bright’ including $3M just for the script.
The cast also includes Noomi Rapace, Edgar Ramirez, Ike Barinholtz, Enrique Murciano, Jay Hernandez, Andrea Navedo, Veronica Ngo, Alex Meraz, Margaret Cho, Brad William Henke, Dawn Oliveri, and Kenneth Choi.
The film arrives on Netflix on December 22nd.
