iron fist

With ‘Daredevil’ Season 3 officially shooting now, it seems all of the recent news attention about the ongoing adventures of Matt Murdock is now going to turn to another of the Netflix/ Marvel series, namely, ‘Iron Fist’ Season 2. Now before you start complaining about why anybody should care, let us not forget that Season 2 will at least have a new showrunner in Raven Metzner, and I would like to think that a lot of the problems with Season 1 came from original ‘Iron Fist’ showrunner Scott Buck, the proof being that the man went on to do ‘Inhumans‘ on ABC, and that show also had a few issues. The character of ‘Iron Fist’ is not without merit, and I still believe if done right it can be a great show, so I retain hope that Season 2 can turn it all around.

That being said, the first of the news released for Season 2 concerns the casting of a new female character for the series. Here’s the casting breakdown as reported by ‘That Hashtag Show:’

  • [TANYA PARKER](late-20’s, open ethnicity) As a freelance covert operative, Tanya has carried out many high-level missions.  A chameleon adept at playing roles, Tanya inhabits the “part” that best fits the mission. SERIES REGULAR

Many are speculating this character could be an assassin tasked with killing Danny Rand, working for either the remnants of the Hand (if Madame Gao survived, she could be the one behind it), or working for Joy Meachum, or for Davos (or both). As for the specific character, many are hoping she could actually be the comic book villain Lady Gorgan, which would be a great fit as she is an associate of the Hand and a ninja, which would fit for an adversary of the Iron Fist. And while she did originally appear in ‘Punisher: War Journal’ being hired by Jigsaw to kill Frank Castle, it would be easy enough to change that story to have her go after Danny Rand instead. Of course, there are other options for who this character could be, and she may not even be a comic book villain, but it is good to see ‘Iron Fist’ Season 2 moving forward, and I am going to keep the faith that Marvel/ Netflix are going to learn from the mistakes of the first season.

Are you inclined to be as positive about the second season? Feel free to share your thoughts and who this character might be in the comments below!
