For everyone who enjoyed the first season of ‘The Punisher’ as much as I did, get ready, because if the show does indeed get a second season pick-up, they have some big plans. While the first season had Frank still dealing with meting out his own brand of justice to those involved in the death of his family, and bringing down the government conspiracy that was responsible for ruining his life, it seems the second season will see Frank Castle (and hopefully Micro) start going after mobsters and criminals more in line with what we traditionally see the Punisher doing in the comics. And apparently, there are already some villains that the people in charge have in mind.
According to showrunner Steve Lightfoot while speaking about villains he’d like to see in Season 2:
“I haven’t even thought about Season 2, but one of the villains I love is Barracuda. I think he’s great fun. I also really like O’Brien. I thought she was always really cool. Certainly those two jump out at me initially, but there are so many great characters there. It’s a very fun sandbox.”
Barracuda, introduced in Garth Ennis’s ‘Punisher MAX’ series, comes from a military background as a former marine, and in the comics is hired to assassinate Frank, which could lead to some fun sequences, though they have done a lot of the ex-military vs. ex-military stuff in Season 1 with Billy Russo. O’Brien was also introduced in Ennis’s ‘Punisher MAX’ comics, though she was a former CIA operative who worked with Frank to bring down her corrupt ex-husband, which could bring an interesting dynamic to the show of having a woman working in the field with Frank, someone not currently working for the government and maybe a little more willing to break the law than Madani was in Season 1.
What do you think of the potential of these new characters for the series? Can you think of any others that would be fun to see in Season 2? Feel free to share your thoughts and theories in the comments below!
