We’re about to be introduced to Jeff Goldblum‘s Grandmaster in ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ and the Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout attraction at California Adventure in Anaheim seems to imply that he’ll be back. Not only that, but it looks like he’ll be meeting up with Benicio Del Toro’s Collector! We already know that the two cosmic characters are brothers in Marvel’s comics and it appears that they’ll be brothers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well. While they might not always be on the best of terms, there are always times where brothers need to get together.
Before I jump into theories as to how that might be let’s take a look at how the news was revealed as Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige was asked if these two actors would be sharing screen time:
“It would be awesome man. It would be great. We love the idea that they’re brothers. If you go on the Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout attraction at California Adventure in Anaheim, you will see a picture on Collector’s wall of he and the Grandmaster playing some sort of a space chess game, which right now is the only place you can see the two of them in a frame together, but let’s hope that changes someday.”
With everyone going up against Thanos in ‘Avengers: Infinity War‘, something big happening in ‘Avengers 4,’ and more cosmic adventures happening in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,’ it is clear that there would be plenty of opportunities to put these two on the same screen. Curious as to what that could look like?
The image artist Ryan Meinerding shared seems to be “Exactly” how we would see the two of them together in a movie according to Feige.
While this isn’t a confirmation that we’ll see them together or in a scene like this, the chances are that the MCU would hate wasting the opportunity of bringing these two amazing actors together. It seems that Feige is eager to find a way to bring him back as well:
“Jeff Goldblum has been on our wish list for many, many years. Many, many years we’ve wanted Jeff Goldblum in the universe somewhere, and thank God we never found anything until the Grandmaster came along because, yes, it doesn’t get more perfect than that.”
Personally, I think that ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ or ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ would be the most fitting place to see this team up happen. However, with a lighthearted exchange between the two, it would seem that showing up with Star-Lord would be the better fit.
