Pacific Rim: Uprising

Before fans are transported back to Guillermo Del Toro’s monstrous world of giant monsters and robots next year courtesy of Steven S. DeKnight’s ‘Pacific Rim: Uprising,’ Legendary Comics will allow the audience to ease back into the story with a brief sneak peek into the new status quo following the harrowing escapades of a team of heroic Jaeger pilots including Raleigh Becket and Mako Mori. Starting in January, the publishing division of the acclaimed movie studio is set to release a new comic series that will tie the upcoming film to the original one.

Written by ‘Doctor Who’, ‘Adventure Time’, and ‘Vikings’ comic tie-in scribe Cavan Scott with art from Richard Elson, the six-part series titled ‘Pacific Rim: Aftermath’ will feature new characters such as ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ star John Boyega’s Jake Pentecost as the world around them is resurrected from the ashes of a war fought between Kaiju and Jaegers. Although, it will focus on an ex-Jaeger pilot that gets caught up with a less than favorable crowd. You can check out the cover of the first issue and the official synopsis from Legendary right here:

Santa Monica, 2034. In a city that was once the jewel of the West Coast, a new world has emerged: one rising up from the ashes of giant robots and giant monsters. In this futuristic aftermath, we will meet a new generation of survivors, including Jake Pentecost, son of Stacker Pentecost, who is searching for answers behind the death of his legendary father; Griffin, a Jaeger pilot who has gone from defending the world to piloting an illegal Jaeger enforcer for a mob boss; and the Mech Czar, a techno-criminal overlord who rules the underworld with a steel fist. Set against a neo-noir backdrop of street gangs, Kaiju worshipers, and Jaeger Scrapyards, a mysterious but familiar figure arrives with a dangerous agenda.

Fans of the original ‘Pacific Rim’ have been clamoring for more stories from this world since the movie debuted in 2013. The wait is finally over in March 2018, but for those of us who can’t even wait that long, the first issue of ‘Pacific Rim: Aftermath’ will hit the shelves at your local comic shop (or digitally) on January 17, 2018.
