Rick (Andrew Lincoln) makes a pretty bold declaration in the newest trailer for ‘The Walking Dead’ Season 8. As the solemn clip opens, he announces, “The world is ours… by right! We’ve come together for it. All of us.” Then, perhaps indicating Maggie’s new role as a leader of The Hilltop, she (Lauren Cohan) also delivers a rousing speech, culminating with the line “The future is ours!”
We know that Season 8 consists largely of the storyline ‘All Out War‘ with the now splintered settlements taking sides for their own betterment. Rick and the Alexandrians have Maggie and The Hilltop on their side, despite the continued presence of cowardly scoundrel Gregory (Xander Berkley), as well as Ezekiel’s (Khary Payton) Kingdom and in a lesser role, the heavily armed Oceanside. But in the Season 7 finale, Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh) and her Scavengers double crossed Rick and sided with Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) in a move that bought the Saviors more time as they beat a hasty retreat from the conflict.
That means that each side must now regroup and plan their upcoming actions, which from the sound of things means more violence and death.
As Austin Amelio, who plays Dwight put it:
“It’s a f —ing in-your-face action-packed IV of adrenaline. Season 7 was the ramp-up and now this is the blastoff. The stuff that’s happening is insane!”
Whatever happens, things look ominous as everyone in this trailer appears super scared. Check it out for yourself:
Discussing the new season, Lincoln said:
“I think that last season was very painful for everybody. And now you get a certain sense of a reclaiming of the old show and the swagger.”
Melissa McBride, who plays Carol added:
“This is like back in the old days. This is what I was yearning for last year.”
Perhaps Seth Gilliam a.k.a. Father Gabriel put it best comparing the new season to:
“A Schwarzenegger versus Stallone action thing from the ’80s. I think there are, like, 10 explosions an episode. Every time you turn around, somebody’s shooting something or blowing something up. There’s some serious action that I don’t think we’ve seen on television since The A-Team went off the air.”
