hawk and dove titans

A new casting call for Warner Brothers’ ‘Titans’ due to premiere next year on their new DC Comics-based streaming platform, hints that the show may be seeking to add Hawk and Dove to the ranks, at least on a trial basis.

There is only one cast listing, for the female part of a crime-fighting duo.  The name “Molly” is used, but as is always the case with adaptations like this, fake names are used to attempt to keep things under wraps until the show gets closer to materializing.  Check it out below:

MOLLY Recurring Female (25-30) [Open ethnicity] Graceful master fighting machine. She straddles the world of being a thrill-seeking and do-gooding vigilante, along with being her crime fighting partner’s emotional anchor and caregiver. She loves him, but fears what he’s become…RECURRING GUEST STAR WITH SERIES REGULAR OPTION.

Hawk and Dove were supposed to be part of the ‘Titans’ team when the series was in development at TNT before that network passed.  If they are being considered for this program, it’s possible that this isn’t a fresh start so much as a repurposing of the original plans for the TNT show.

Reportedly, the creative team already have their eyes on two candidates to play these heroes.  For Hawk, they are allegedly hoping to cast a DC veteran, Alan Ritchson, who played Aquaman/Arthur “A.C.” Curry on ‘Smallville.”  In another comic book-related property, he provides both the motion capture performance and voice for Raphael in the ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ movies.  He had the small role of tribute Gloss in ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’.

Currently, he stars as Arthur Bailey, the lead character on Syfy’s ‘Blood Drive’.  The final episode airs this coming week, but the fate of this show has not been announced.   If it gets renewed, Ritchson may not even be able to take the role of Hank Hall/Hawk.

Meanwhile, for the role of his partner Dawn Granger/Dove, DC seems to be interested in Rebecca Rittenhouse, star of ‘The Mindy Project’.  The final season of this series will be available on Hulu on September 12th, so presumably, filming has wrapped.  However, Rittenhouse has been cast in a made-for-TV movie called ‘Real Life’ which is in pre-production.  As with Ritchson, this other project could prevent her from being involved with ‘Titans’.  As for her other credits, Rittenhouse has also had regular roles on ‘Blood and Oil’ and ‘Red Band Society’.

There have been a few different configurations of the Hawk and Dove team.  Originally, the roles were held by brothers Hank and Don Hall.  The more aggressive Hank gained super strength as Hawk, while pacifist Don had super acrobatic skills as Dove.  After Don was killed during ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’, a female character, Dawn Granger became the new Dove.  Their history gets complicated with both Dawn and Hank being killed at various points.  Dawn’s sister Holly served as Hawk while Hank was dead, but was later killed herself, while Hank was resurrected.

In addition to Hawk and Dove, ‘Titans’ is looking to cast a supporting character from the comics, Detective Amy Rohrbach.

DET AMY ROHRBACH Supporting Female (25-35) [OPEN] She is the detective alongside Dick Grayson who knows more than she lets on. Pretty, has tattoos.

Amy Rohrbbach appeared for a time in ‘Nightwing’ as one of the few honest cops in Dick Grayson’s stomping ground of Blüdhaven.

Nightwing is the lead character on this show, and will be joined by Starfire, Raven and Beast-Boy.  We just learned that Brenton Thwaites will portray Nightwing, with Teagan Croft playing Raven and Anna Diop as Starfire.  Beast-Boy’s casting has not yet been announced.

Does the inclusion of Hawk and Dove make you more… or less interested in ‘Titans’?  What do you think of these potential castings?
