DC movie scribe David S. Goyer cut loose while making an appearance on a panel for the podcast Scriptnotes.  He didn’t hold back at all while flaying the Martian Manhunter, but his statements about that character paled compared to the disdain he unleashed upon the Marvel character the She-Hulk.  After a lengthy sex-obsessed tirade, he brought it home by calling the character “a giant green porn star that only the Hulk could f**k.”

David S. Goyer– Kiss your mom with that mouth?

As I previously pointed out, the She-Hulk is actually the Hulk’s cousin, so ick!

Now the Washington Post has turned to the top authority on the subject of She-Hulk’s creation (the character debuted in 1980’s ‘The Savage She-Hulk’ #1), Stan Lee who co-created the character along with artist John Buscema. Regarding the idea of the Hulk and She-Hulk being lovers, Lee scoffed, “Never for an instant did I want her as a love interest for Hulk.  Only a nut would even think of that.”

“As for her looking beautiful and curvy,” he further stated “show me the superheroine who isn’t.”

About the behind-the-scenes origin of the character, he explained “I know I was looking for a new female superhero, and the idea of an intelligent Hulk-type grabbed me.”  Note the “intelligent” part, as from the start, She-Hulk has retained her normal human intelligence.  In her secret identity, she was Jennifer Walters, a successful lawyer who just happened to be the cousin of Bruce Banner/the Hulk and who gained powers when he gave her an emergency blood transfusion after mobsters attempted to assassinate her.

Goyer’s comments have generated tons of backlash… as they should.  Hopefully he and other creators will think twice before spewing forth whatever locker room sleaze pops into their head for all the world to hear.

Does Goyer have the right to say whatever he wants?  Sure.  Is it always a good idea?  Doesn’t look like it.
