In preparation for the release of the newest entrant into the cinematic ‘Star Wars’ universe, EW has unveiled new interviews with several of the stars and creative team behind ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi,’ otherwise known as ‘Star Wars Episode VIII.’

In another of their interviews, writer/director Rian Johnson spoke at length about Supreme Leader Snoke and the villains behind the film, but he and John Boyega, who portrays Finn in the new trilogy, also took the time to chat about the good guys as well.

Boyega kicked things off by discussing how Finn is feeling about his new role as a Resistance freedom fighter, including how his actions impact one of the new characters to be introduced in ‘The Last Jedi,’ Rose (portrayed by Kelly Marie Tran):

“It got really real for him. And he just wants to get away and not be involved. His intention in the first place was to go to the Outer Rim. He was always brought back [in The Force Awakens,], but this is his chance to get away and perhaps find Rey and go off together. He’s trying to do that at first. Everyone in space, throughout the galaxy, would have heard about the young Jedi who discovered her powers and defeated Kylo Ren and the young former Stormtrooper who helped save the day.  He’s a hero to people like Rose, who fight for the Resistance because their homes have been destroyed by the First Order.”

Johnson, for his part, chimed in with some interesting information about the planet Cantonica, where Finn and Rose end up at a large city-sized casino named Canto Bight:

“The whole city is kind of one sort of luxury resort that’s been built on this very otherwise abandoned, arid planet.  It’s like Vegas with aliens. So maybe it is just like Vegas.”

Sounds like fans have a lot of fun new ‘Star Wars’ universe-building to look forward to when the movie opens in just a few short months!

‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ will hit US theaters on December 15, 2017.
