If you’ve been wanting to know more about Netflix’s upcoming release of ‘The Defenders‘, you’ll be happy to know that Charlie Cox has let two pieces of information slip in a recent interview. While initially talking about the fractured friendship between both Matt Murdock and his best friend Foggy Nelson he also lets it slip how long of a timespan ‘The Defenders’ will run.
We’ve already learned that Murdock won’t be running around as Daredevil as the ‘The Defenders’ debuts but as he gets dragged into fighting against Sigourney Weaver’s and The Hand, you can guess his friendships will be drawn into the fray. While things were left on the outs between these two besties, it is clear that their unresolved issues might have to take a backseat to such a significant threat descending on Hell’s Kitchen and the rest of New York.
None of these are major spoilers, but if you want to go into the series with a blank state you ought to turn back before reading the quote below!
So, how exactly are Matt and Foggy doing and how does the length of the upcoming series play into it? According to Cox:
“That relationship is still fractured. I know that in Defenders — because of the nature of the problem, the nature of the issue, the plot in our show — Foggy has to get on board with Matt and what he can do. And I think he begins to see the benefit of someone like Matt. But that doesn’t detract from the years of lying. The real healing is going to have to come later. The Defenders takes place in a week, a very small amount of time, you know what I mean? Only so much healing can be done in that time.”
Most of the shows have taken place over the span of a few weeks, so it will be fun to watch this one actually be compressed into a single one. I’m expecting a bit more on action and pacing to be a little quicker with that being the case. Especially with Weaver’s Alexandra planning on the complete destruction of New York City.
