X-Men Apocalypse

Details are sparse, but FOX has ordered a pilot for an ‘X-Men’ TV series.  The as-yet-untitled show is said to be an “action adventure” series about two parents who discover that their child has developed mutant powers.  They are:

“Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive.”

In interesting news, the series is a joint venture between 20th Century Fox (who owns FOX) and Marvel TV, which will be the first time Marvel has been involved in an ‘X-Men’ project.  What that could lead to… well, start speculating.

This also marks the first time a Marvel TV project has branched out beyond ABC (owned by parent company Disney) and Netflix.

Fox’s Bryan Singer, Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg, and Matt Nix are collaborating with Marvel’s Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory as the production staff.  Nix is writing the script.

You may recall that FOX had an order in place for ‘Hellfire’ a drama also based on the X-Men universe’ Hellfire Club, but development on the show has been… well, hellish, with all of the writers departing the project.  It appears that may have permanently derailed the project, which may have opened the door for this one.

Elsewhere, FX (also owned by 20th Century Fox) has ordered another X-Men-based show to series for the fall, ‘Legion’.

Fox Entertainment president David Madden said:

“Developing a Marvel property has been a top priority for the network – and we are so pleased with how Matt Nix has led us into this thrilling universe.  There’s comic book adventure, emotional and complicated relationships and a rich, existing mythology from which to draw. With the brilliant production crew behind this project, it has all the makings of a big, fun and exciting new series.”

President of Creative Affairs at 20th Century Fox, Jonathan Davis added:

“Working with Marvel on a television series for Fox has been a professional dream for our head of development, Michael Thorn, and all of us at the studio,” said  “Matt, Lauren, Bryan, Simon, Jeph and Jim are a powerhouse team of creative artists, and we can’t wait to get started on what will easily be one of this development season’s most exciting new projects.”
