spider-man

Okay boys and girls – this should go without saying, but we’re about to dive into discussing what the mid- and post-credits sequence in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ entail, so…

WARNING: This post contains spoilers about the film ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming.’ If you haven’t seen the movie yet and don’t want this information to be revealed to you, then the time to stop reading is now!

Okay, that’s out of the way, so let’s dive in.  There are two credits scenes in total: one that takes place mid-credits, and one that happens at the very end of the credits.  The mid-credits sequence seems relevant to the future of the Spider-Man character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the post-credits scene is simply a silly gag scene – but a really, really funny one!

First up is mid-credits: we catch up with Adrian Toomes (Michael Keaton) in prison, where he bumps into Mac Gargan, aka The Scoprion.  Gargan lets Toomes know that he has friends on the outside who are ready and willing to go after Spider-Man, and that word on the street is that Toomes knows his secret identity.  Toomes tells Gargan that he, in fact, does not know that info – obviously a lie, but Gargan seems to buy it.  As Toomes heads off to meet his family for a visitation, it’s hard to read his face as to whether he kept this info from Gargan in order to exploit Peter himself later, or if he truly does feel remorse and a sense of debt to Spider-Man…

The post-credits scene is just goofy as all get out.  Throughout the film, Captain America appears in the chintzy high-school “instructional videos” about puberty, honesty, etc.  At the end of the film, he appears to us the audience and gives us a firm-but-fair lesson while explaining the importance of patience, even if sometimes we’re patient and it ends up we’re not waiting for anything important, for example, a relevant credits scene.  Chris Evans then breaks character and says to someone off-screen “How many more of these do we have to do?” before the screen quickly cuts to black.

So, there you have it – now you know that’s waiting for you at the end of the film!

‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ is in US theaters now!
