transformers the last night mark wahlberg michael bay

Michael Bay previously stated that he’d be open to spinoff films in the ‘Transformers’ franchise but now both he and Mark Wahlberg have confirmed that they are done after ‘Transformers: The Last Knight‘. While we’ve already learned that Wahlberg’s Cade Yeager is the “last knight” bering referred to in the title, it seems like this will be his last time in the films as we learned from his recent time on ‘The Graham Norton Show’ which aired last Friday.

On it, he simply stated that “It’s the last one so I get my life back!” and it is hard to say if he meant that in good humor or if he’s just not a fan of franchises tying up his ability to work on other projects. I’m sure it didn’t help that he had to spend “five months” getting in shape for the film before they gave him a haircut which he couldn’t stand.

“The long hair is the worst thing ever,” he joked. “I look like my mum in the ’70s – it’s just really bad!”

As for Bay finally leaving the explosion-filled blockbusters he has become so associated with he stated that:

“These movies that I’ve done, they are massive movies. They take a lot out of you,” Bay said when we asked if he was finally — for real, this time — stepping away from the Transformers franchise. “I’ve done it enough, and I’ve had a great time doing it. I’m going out with a bang on this one, and I feel like you gotta go out while you’re ahead, you know. I think I’ve had a good run, and I’ve got a lot of other movies I want to do.”

Now, Bay’s decision to leave I would say is out with a grain of salt. He has previously stated that he was leaving the franchise on multiple occasions and has also said he might be open to one of the spinoff films which are in pre-development. I could see him being done directing the main series, but I wouldn’t put it past Bay on returning again down the line.

Are you happy or sad that the new films which ‘Transformers: The Last Knight’ will be the last runs for both Wahlberg and Bay? Do you think that Bay will end up exploding back onto the big screen at least one more time directing the Autobots saving the world from the Decepticons? Share your thoughts below!
