If you thought that the non-Spiderman films Sony was putting out had an interesting twist, it seems that may be so. Sony is betting big on these films if the new rumor for ‘Silver and Black‘ holds true. With ‘Wonder Woman’ crushing it at the box office on opening weekend, it should be no surprise that studios want to capitalize on female superheroes so with Sony not having Spidey in their new cinematic superhero universe, it seems they are looking to launch an Avengers styled all-female superhero team.

Sure, ‘Venom‘ is launching this new set of films but this rumor is pulling in a couple big and a couple smaller named heroes and villains together. According to the source:

With Wonder Woman opening this week, it’s a pretty good bet Sony is taking universe building tips from Warner/DC. Why?

Silver and Black is the setup for an all female Spidey-verse team movie. It ends with Silver Sable (a la Nick Fury) rounding up a team of The Black Cat, Jessica Drew (Spider-Woman), Charlotte Witter (Stunner), Sarah Ehret (Jackpot) and Cassie St. Commons (Dusk).

The only questionable inclusion here is Spider-Woman as she was introduced in ‘Marvel Spotlight’ and not a Peter Parker related comic. While she has appeared in ‘Spider-Man’ comics and crossovers quite a few times, she is also known as an Avenger, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., and agent of S.W.O.R.D. Depending who owns the rights to this character, we could see her on either side of Marvel Studios or Sony and fitting in quite well. In Marvel’s sandbox, she could easily be introduced through Nick Fury though as a spy, she could also fit in with having a familiarity with Silver Sable. And while Spider-Woman is an excellent choice to have on the team, Stunner, Jackpot, and Dusk all feel like afterthoughts for any superhero team lineup.

Do you think ‘Silver and Black’ could potentially kick off a new superhero team? Are there any female heroes from Spidey’s sandbox which you believe are missing and would be an asset? Which studio do you think owns the rights to Spider-WOman? Share your thoughts below True Believers!
