With ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ poised to hit theaters in just over a month, Sony is busy making their plans about the fate of their own Spidey-universe, which may or may not actually include Spider-Man, no one is really sure at the moment. After hearing the news about ‘Venom‘ recently, we have been curious to hear what other movies Sony would be putting out based on the characters they have the rights to. And now the news is out that Gina Prince-Bythewood (‘The Secret Life of Bees’) is directing ‘Silver and Black,’ the movie centered around Silver Sable and the Black Cat, which was written by Christopher Yost, who also wrote the screenplay for ‘Thor: The Dark World.’ The bulk of what we know comes to us from sources over at SplashReport.com (they cite the scoop as coming from Colonel George Dillon):

“Here are some details about the story: Seven years after Mendel Stromm (a.k.a. Robot Master) and his two henchmen (The Scorpion and The Tarantula) killed her father, Silver Sable is hired by the government to find Felicia Hardy. The Black Cat, a master hacker and thief, has apparently stolen valuable secret information. She’s hiding in the lawless and dangerous triple frontier area between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil.

Once there, Sable ask her old contact Dmitri Smerdyakov (a.k.a. The Chameleon) to locate her. But it seems, the government are not the only ones looking for the Black Cat. It seems Felicia had made a deal Stromm to save her father from a Russian prison and she’s been genetically enhanced. Now, the mad scientist wants his prized experiment back because his financier (cough Norman Osborn cough) wants a return on his investment.

There’s no appearance or mention of Peter Parker or Spider-Man.

Also in the story: Dominic Fortune, Jessica Drew (Spider-Woman), Roxxon Oil, Sergei Kravinoff (Kraven the Hunter), Lonnie Lincoln (Tombstone) and Charles Standish.”

They certainly seem to be hitting as many characters from the ‘Spider-Man’ universe as they can, though whether that means the MCU cannot use those characters in their own ‘Spider-Man’ stories has yet to be determined, as no one is really sure what the terms of the Marvel/ Sony deal is, or how exactly this is all going to work with Sony having their own side universe with all of Spider-Man’s supporting characters, but not the man himself. Personally, I’m just confused, and still just wish Sony would give it all back to Marvel as I have little faith in their ability to do any of this right, especially if they are trying to do it piecemeal and without ‘Spider-Man’ himself there to tie it all together.
