Before the ‘Resident Evil: The Final Chapter‘ even finished filming there were talks that a reboot was to happen and with the movie not yet cold in our Blu-ray collections having only been released on May 16th, 2017, it seems like it is already moving forward. The news came during the Cannes Film Festival that not only was the reboot coming but it was already in development!

Chairman of the Board at Constantin Film, Martin Moszkowicz confirmed that “the giant German production company, which owns rights to the franchise and has produced all of its installments” was already hard at work with a follow-up that would introduce the series to a newer generation. Not only that, the plan is to not only reboot the franchise but to have it span into 6 films!

The current live-action franchise was closed out in January with the release of ‘Resident Evil: The Final Chapter’ which was able to net over $312 million in box office sales. With these kinds of numbers, zombies still being a hot property, and this being Capcom’s one lucrative cinematic franchise it should surprise no one in the slightest that we’d see it returning to the big screen.

The only surprise could be how quickly it is happening.

Paul W.S. Anderson has made a memorable franchise for fans with his Milla Jovovich starring take on the property, so it will be interesting to see which direction the new films go. The idea of staying slightly truer to the origins of the franchise might be tempting as you can tend to do zombie movies with lower budgets, but the creativity of Anderson’s iteration is what kept fans interested and coming back for more.

Are you looking forward to a new take on the ‘Resident Evil’ franchise? Will the new take follow Alice once more or other members who have worked with or against The Umbrella Corporation? Share your thoughts below!
