TNT is officially bringing a pilot to order for a ‘Snowpiercer‘ series based off of the critically acclaimed 2013 Bong Joon-ho helmed film and Jacques Lob’s graphic novel ‘Le Transperceneige‘. Not only that but some of the casting and crew has been setup. The piece that I’m most excited about is that we’ve learned that Scott Derrickson (‘Doctor Strange,”Sinister’) will be directing the pilot. There is no news as to if he will also be the showrunner or work on other episodes, but it hints that, at the very least, we’ll have a strong introduction to the small screen take on this world. Derrickson will, however, be an Executive Producer with Josh Friedman (‘Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles’), Marty Adelstein (‘Prison Break’), Becky Clements (‘Last Man Standing’), Park Chan-wook, Lee Tae-hun, Dooho Choi, and Joon-ho.
As there was a lot of acting talent in the film including Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton, and the late John Hurt, we don’t know too much from the series yet. However, one big name attached is Daveed Diggs who played both Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson in ‘Hamilton.’ He is a Grammy and Tony Award-winning actor and will play the lead of Layton who is “a prisoner barely surviving the harsh conditions in the tail end of the train.”
Much like the film and graphic novel we’ll be following what is left of civilization as they strive to survive on the non-stop train which is running in an endless loop around the now decimated world. Initially meant for just the wealthy, a slew of what are considered lower class citizens were let on board, and the separation of class is more apparent here than ever. Those in the front live a life of luxury unimagined even by today’s standards while those in the back are barely surviving.
Are you looking forward to an ongoing take on the world of ‘Snowpiercer’? Do you think that the class warfare here will be even more apparent than in the film? Share your thoughts below!
