Critics have loved ‘The Exorcist‘ but with only modest ratings, it was unknown if Fox would pick up the series for a second season though it looks like the devil of cancellation has been pushed back for at least another year. While not completely unfounded as the show “averaged a modest 1.2 adults 18-49 rating (Live+7),” it was by no means a flop, but it wasn’t the ratings draw that the network had hoped for. Thankfully, Fox and critics love it so that it will go on with rumors of a showrunner taking over the direction of the upcoming season.

‘The Exorcist’ has been written, and executive produced by Jeremy Slater and is based on a mixture of the William Peter Blatty’s bestseller and iconic 1973 film. Rolin Jones, Rupert Wyatt, Roy Lee, James Robinson, David Robinson, and Barbara Wall are also all involved as Executive Producers.

The show has been following two men who are trying to help a family with the demonic possession that plagues their house who have very different ideas on how to tackle the problem. At this time there are no hints as to where the plot will go but that it will be creating a new chapter for the franchise. With Slater previously stating that he has “a lot more story to tell” if it was picked up to continue it seems we won’t have to wonder for long what tale he will share with us.
