Fans of ‘Sleepy Hollow‘ will today be sad to learn that Fox has not renewed the series for a fifth season. While the series started off strong in its first season with Tom Mison and Nicole Beharie having a fantastic on-screen chemistry and the solid overall story arc that kept viewers coming back for more, each season had a new shake up that continued to lose viewers. Ratings dropped even more significantly when Beharie left the show last season.

The fourth season had an average of “0.9 in the demo and 3.2 million total viewers — with seven days of DVR” which was a huge drop from the third season that had already suffered a blow to having eyes on the show. International sales didn’t put enough of a dent in this dip to make a continuation feasible for 20th Century Fox Television.

The news came directly from Co-creator Phillip Iscove as can be seen in the tweets below:

Executive Producer M. Raven Metzner‏ shared:

Showrunner Albert Kim also had a goodbye to give:

Derek Mears who played Moloch on the show also had a fond farewell to share:

It looks to have been international sales which have kept the series afloat, and while fan response was high for the most recent season, they weren’t able to bring back anyone who had already tuned out. Fox has already axed ‘Pitch’ and ‘Rosewood’ so we should expect a few new shows to be announced in the near future and likely at least one of them will be a genre show.
