Apparently, the heroes are not the only ones teaming up during ‘The Defenders’! In fact, they might actually be the ones late to the concept.

According to a recent interview with Luke Cage himself, Mike Colter revealed that all of the villains of the various Marvel/ Netflix series are tied to one entity, meaning the villains have been working together for some time now. Which makes some sense, we know ‘Daredevil’ and ‘Iron Fist’ are already linked by Madame Gao and the Hand, and ‘Jessica Jones’ and ‘Luke Cage’ are linked by the strange company performing lab experiments on humans and giving them powers, which will most likely have ties back to the Hand (or whoever is controlling them).

In Colter’s own words during a recent interview with TV Guide (you can check out the full video below):

“The villains that we’re dealing with are a combination of several entities, um, and they all have something to do with our separate stories that have played out in each of our own individual series. So this has been going on for a while. It wasn’t obvious in each individual series, but in this series you’ll find out that the things that happened to all of us basically were all because of one entity and that’s what’s gonna kind of tie things together and then we’ll see that, we’ll understand that, and before you know it, eventually we’ll fight together or not.”

Personally, I think this is great news as it proves that there was a plan all along, and I like to see shows tied together like this, especially when they are so well done. The pay off in ‘The Defenders’ will be all the better because we will know the set-up had so much work behind it, and all of the shared villain stuff will go a long way toward uniting our heroes, who might have some trouble working together because each is such a strong personality, even if they do have Claire Temple prodding them to get along.
