blade-runner-2049

While much of the focus lately has been on ‘Alien: Covenant’, that’s not the only film Ridley Scott has coming out this year. The other film is, of course, ‘Blade Runner 2049. And though Scott is not directing that outing (instead serving as an executive producer), the fact that it is a sequel to a film often described as Scott’s masterpiece nonetheless places him front and center in the conversation surrounding ‘Blade Runner 2049’. Given that, the recent announcement that the first full trailer for the sci-fi/noir thriller will be playing ahead of ‘Alien: Covenant’ later this month is hardly surprising.

However, fans will get to see that trailer a few weeks early, as confirmed by a teaser released earlier today. Similar to the two minute “announcement teaser” released in December, the new teaser largely showcases the film’s environments, which are, like those of the original, visually stunning. Though brief (clocking in at a mere fifteen seconds), the teaser more than accomplishes what it set out to do, which is to whet audiences’ appetites for the full trailer. And now that we know that trailer is due on Monday? Well, let’s just say this is going to be a long weekend…

The teaser itself is available here:

From Warner’s official synopsis:

Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.

Helmed by ‘Arrival’ director Denis Villeneuve, ‘Blade Runner 2049’ is due to be released on October 6, 2017. The film’s cast features returning star Harrison Ford alongside newcomers Ryan Gosling, Robin Wright, Dave Bautista, Mackenzie Davis, Carla Juri, Jared Leto, Ana de Armas, and Sylvia Hoeks.
