We’ve known that Greg Berlanti was planning on bringing ‘Black Lightning‘ to The CW ever since the pilot washed out over at Fox and now we’ve learned that they’re planning to have a midseason release during the upcoming 2017-2018 season! This will be the fifth show joining the network as they already have ‘Arrow’, ‘The Flash’, ‘Legends of Tomorrow’, and ‘Supergirl’. Interestingly enough the first three of those all take place on Earth-1 while Supergirl takes place in Earth-38 in an already established multiverse.
At this time we aren’t sure if the new hero will be living in one of the two established Earths in The CW’s Multiverse or a new Earth entirely. We do know that it was developed by Mara Brock Akil and her husband/partner Salim Akil initially for Fox. As the series is launching on The CW instead of Fox, your guess is as good as mine as to which Earth we’ll see Black Lightning on. As we all know, even if he is on an alternate Earth that won’t lessen the chance of crossover potential with what the network has done so far.
If this follows when the network traditionally releases their shows we can likely see the first episode air on January of 2018.
As the show is being touted as having a very different feel from the current lineup, it sounds like we’ll be getting a more serious instead of lighthearted hero. This could be a breath of fresh air for those who might think that there is too much of the same style of television currently on The CW but only time will tell how viewers react to it.
Are you looking forward to ‘Black Lightning’? How do you feel the character will fit into the greater Arrowverse which has been created? Share your thoughts below!
