One of the big mysteries that we still know of for James Gunn’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2‘ is what part Sylvester Stallone would be playing and that secret may have finally been revealed. My only thought on this though is that if this is the role, then there wasn’t such a need to keep it so quiet. This news apparently came from an international press release which means either someone leaked the details early or this is news that will be announced state-side pretty soon.

Most of the release was standard though the final line did mention Kurt Russell as Ego the Living Planet as well as Stallone and his role. This news might be a spoiler to some as we haven’t seen it anywhere else yet so I’ll give you a moment to turn back now if you’d like.

So when mentioning Stallone, they reference his character as Stakar. Most of you are going to be scratching your heads at this moment but anyone who remembers the original Guardians of the Galaxy 31st century team then you’ll know that Stakar went by the title Starhawk. He was the son of Quasar and Kismet and was a bit of an anti-hero in his day.

As the franchise is willing to already take these future Guardians and transplant them in the present the announcement isn’t quite that surprising. It also fits as to how he could make an appearance in future Marvel Studios outings as the company slowly embraces more of the cosmic side of Marvel’s universe.

The original tweet can be seen here:

Are you excited to hear that Stallone is likely playing a reenvisioned Starhawk in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ or did you think that he’d be playing another character? Share your thoughts below True Believers!
