From everything we can tell, ‘Logan‘ will be the last film in which we see Sir Patrick Stewart (‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’,’Blunt Talk’) play Professor X in an ‘X-Men’ film but it sounds like the actor would happily reprise his role! At this time it seems like Fox is fully committed to rebooting their franchise with a younger generation of actors but that wouldn’t mean that it is impossible for any of the originals, Stewart included, to come back one last time.

Here is what Stewart had to say on the matter:

“Hugh has raised the flag that says goodbye. I haven’t done that yet.”

While I would love to see an older Professor X back in a central role, I suspect that it won’t happen from the direction they are taking the films. However, ‘Deadpool 2’ is currently in the works, and one of the main characters to be introduced is Cable. The same Cable that will have to come back in time from the future. A future where quite possibly we could see him interacting with Professor X!

While a glorified cameo wouldn’t do justice to Stewart’s acting abilities, I would love for at least one more appearance by such an amazing actor. Also, think of the meta-comments that Deadpool could again make about Professor X if that happened.

I’m not holding my breath, but I would love to see some sort of time travel story arc somewhere which would bring Stewart back to the franchise.

Would you like for Fox to find a way to bring some of the older X-Men back in a time traveling storyline for one last film? What story arc do you feel would best be adapted to make this happen? Share your thoughts below True Believers!

Directed by James Mangold, ‘Logan’ stars Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Richard E. Grant, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant, and Dafne Keen and claws its way into theaters on March 3, 2017.
