stranger things season 2

With Halloween still so far away it seems like we’re almost getting too many details for the second season of ‘Stranger Things‘ and now we’ve got some of the major plot points to share with you. Honestly, with how much we’re going to go over here about the characters in the upcoming season it will almost make you wonder what the big reveals are going to be as I doubt these spoilers are going to be major ones in the grand scheme of things.

With how little the trailer gave us to go on these could be considered spoilers so I would recommend treading lightly if you continue.

We’ve already known that the second season was set to take place nearly a year after the first and that Halloween would be involved as the boys are dressed as the Ghostbusters but it appears that things actually kick off on Halloween day! How fitting.

While the boys are mostly fine, we saw that Will wasn’t at the end of the first season and according to co-creator Matt Duffer:

“[Will] seems to be seeing images from the Upside Down—the question is whether they’re real or not. So it seems like he’s having some sort of post-traumatic stress disorder.”

I don’t know which is worse for Will, what he coughed up being real or if it is all now just in his head.

Winona Ryder’s character Joyce is trying to make things better for Will and his brother Jonathan played by Charlie Heaton by dating someone new. An old classmate named Bob played by Sean Astin is now in the picture and Ryder states:

“She’s trying to mask a lot. I think she’s made this choice with Bob because she wants a good father figure in her sons’ lives.”

You can’t help but wonder how that will backfire. While that is going on though Sheriff Hopper is still trying to keep the events of the previous season inline with what the government’s narrative is. David Harbour gave this little preview:

“It kind of falls on Hopper to be the voice of authority to say, ‘This did happen and this didn’t happen. He’s struggling with the compromise that takes him to, having to lie and cover things up.”

Brother and sister Mike and Natalia Dyer’s Nancy are shown as in morning because of the loss of Barb and Eleven who they believe are both dead. Of this, co-creator Ross Duffer explains:

“She and Mike are both the most screwed-up because they’re the ones who both lost someone. They’re both grappling with that, and we see the effects.”

It isn’t just familiar faces we’ll see though as a new brother and sister join the cast in Dacre Montgomery’s Billy and Sadie Sink’s Max. The boys not only become friends with Max but we see Lucas and Dustin both being attracted to her while Billy isn’t the friendly type. In fact, Matt Duffer has a solid plan for the character:

“Stephen King always has really great human villains. The evil in the real world is often as bad or worse than the supernatural evil, so we wanted to introduce a character like that.”

A great choice and more Stephen King references are always a plus! Now to the meat and potatoes of the plot. We’ve learned that the gateways to the Upside Down are still open and now Paul Reiser’s Dr. Owens is running the facility. He seems to be a lot friendlier than the previous doctor but whose to say if that is an act or not. Matt says we’ll see “different kinds of horror” this time around which one makes me wonder if they are related to the potential Ravenloft tie-in that was hinted at in the trailer.

It isn’t all serious though as Matarazzo’s character will be getting a pet!

“It’s a little creature I get to bond with. It’s obviously not from this planet or this dimension.”

No word on Eleven quite yet but we did just learn that she’ll have some curly hair this season and play a “major role.”
