Rick and Negan The Walking Dead

The big tease for the upcoming second half of ‘The Walking Dead‘ is that Rick will “Rise Up” against Negan and executive producer Gale Ann Hurd has shared a few details on that. With the series returning this upcoming Sunday night, it makes sense that more details of the show are coming out. While Hurd does share a few fun tidbits, none of this really approaches spoiler territory so you’re pretty safe to read through what she had to say.

With the rating slump that we had from Rick rolling over for Negan had given us, it sounds like the action will be back when the show returns as Hurd says that Rick’s group is “absolutely” ready to take on Negan.

According to Hurd:

“The survivors not only want to rise up, [but] they’re going to take it to Negan. They need a few things. They need to enlist compatriots who are going to go to war with them and they also need weapons because, sadly, they don’t have enough of either. I think we’re going to see them solve that problem — or at least attempt to.”

Now that they know exactly where Negan calls home, they won’t just be hitting an outpost. Clearly, they have a lot of organizing to do in order to enlist men and find the firepower that they’ll need to tackle the threat of Negan. To find friends, though, they’ll need to work with a few people who might not be too open to helping out right away:

“Ezekiel’s a fantastic leader. He’s someone who will take a great deal of time and effort considering what Rick is asking. Gregory, on the other hand, is a coward. He’s not really a leader. All he wants to do is defend his position, and I think anything that puts his life or his leadership at risk sounds like a really bad idea to him. So, I’d have to go with Gregory.”

Rick has a lot of work ahead of him and one has to hope that they don’t spend the entire back half of the current season gathering the resources that they need and only tease the confrontation in the finale before making us wait a year to find out what happens.

Are you looking forward to the return of ‘The Walking Dead’? Do you think that we’re in for a lot of action or are we going to have half a season of politics and gathering supplies only to tease the major fight before the season finale? Share your thoughts below!

The highly anticipated mid-season seven premiere of the #1 show in all of television among adults 18-49, AMC’s “The Walking Dead,” launches Sunday, February 12th at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.
