rings

With the release of ‘Rings‘ due next week, the studio has been putting together some highly entertaining promos for the film by placing leading lady Samara out and about in the world to prank innocent unsuspecting bystanders. Either that or a lot of people have been cursed by the horror icon recently. The first of these two pranks occur in box store while the second actually happened on The Today Show! I feel that the studios have put far too little effort into advertising this one, which is a shame as it has the potential to revitalize the franchise if they can get the box office numbers up.

Hopefully, they’ll be able to scare viewers into checking it out on the big screen.

First up is a prank that happened in a television store which is my favorite of the two:

Honestly, they were able to pull off a decent effect for having her come out from the television. The less entertaining, though still good for a laugh, took place on The Today Show. It isn’t quite the coming out that you would associate with her character but still fun:

I really feel the television was the standout but for how little press I have been seeing ‘Rings’ see so far, at least these teasers are entertaining. I’m not sure if the second one is the right target audience for the film but fans of the series should appreciate the first one. If you can’t wait until next week though you can check out ‘Sadako vs Kayako‘ on Shudder right now which has the character she is based on squaring off against the original Japanese version of the demonic entity from ‘The Grudge.’ The fight itself was a little rushed but the story was a fun watch.

Are you looking forward to ‘Rings’ hitting the big screen? Which of these two pranks did you prefer? Share your thoughts below!

Synopsis:

A new chapter in the beloved RING horror franchise. She sacrifices herself to save her boyfriend and in doing so makes a horrifying discovery: There is a “movie within the movie” that no one has ever seen before…

You can watch ‘Rings’ (before you die apparently) on the big screen on February 3rd, 2017. Directed by F. Javier Gutierrez and starring Matilda Lutz, Alex Roe, Johnny Galecki, Aimee Teegarden, Bonnie Morgan, and Vincent D’Onofrio.
