Black Mirror

There have been a ton of rumors swirling about a December 28th, 2018 release of ‘Black Mirror’ Season 5. Netflix’s NX account accidentally revealed that something for ‘Black Mirror’ was being released by that name and with Season 4 having dropped on December 29th, 2017 this seems to make sense. Only, new details might have muddied the water a little as to what we’ll actually be getting.

Other news outlets have pegged that a Christmas special titled ‘Black Mirror: Bandersnatch’ would be released on the 28th with the upcoming season coming at a later time. If this is true, it looks like we can actually expect a movie at this date as an official ‘Black Mirror: Bandersnatch’ image had briefly appeared on the streaming service and was labeled A Netflix Film which you can see in the screen grab below:

We’ve heard for some time that “Bandersnatch” would take place in the ’80s and focus on a video game which had been in development for a 1984 release that never happened. More rumors have been born recently that say a ‘Black Mirror’ choose-your-own-adventure release is coming which is now being attached to this project. These are, of course, only rumors. However, if it were an interactive film as some suggest, it feels that there would be more fanfare for this entirely new ‘Black Mirror’ experience than what is being given now.

However, with Netflix’s push for this type of cinematic experience growing and ‘Black Mirror’ already having expanded “Nosedive” into a card game, it just feels right that we’ll see this series fall into this genre or content. It also seems like the unique form of storytelling that franchise creator Charlie Brooker would want to deliver!

Do you think that December 28th, 2018 will give us the fifth season of ‘Black Mirror,’ a ‘Black Mirror: Bandersnatch’ movie,’ or both? Will the movie be a standard film or a choose-your-own-adventure? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
