From ‘Trick ‘r Treat’ to ‘Krampus,’ I am a huge fan of Michael Dougherty’s work so to hear that he has been tapped to helm ‘Godzilla 2‘ has me nothing but excited! Legendary Entertainment has really picked a truly visionary filmmaker to follow up Gareth Edward’s blockbuster and I am already dying to see what he puts together for the big screen. It always seemed a little iffy when Edwards who made such a splash with the first film wouldn’t be back for the sequel but as he is still involved on the producer end and with Doughtery directing, I really can’t complain!

We already knew that Dougherty was planning on writing the sequel with Zach Shields and Max Borenstein and was in talks to direct as early as last October but this is the first time the news has officially been announced.

Legendary Pictures and Warner Brothers have a lot on their plate in their world of big monsters which will have ‘Kong: Skull Island’ and ‘Godzilla 2’ leading to an eventual throwdown between these two creatures so both films are going to have to pull in some great numbers at the box office.

There is no confirmation at this time if any of the stars from the original ‘Godzilla’ will be returning or if this will somehow be more of a setup for the eventual confrontation that the King of the Monsters will eventually have with the King of Skull Island.

Are you happy to hear that Dougherty will be directing ‘Godzilla 2’? What direction would you like the story to go? Share your thoughts below!

‘Godzilla 2’ will be released on March 22nd, 2019 with ‘Godzilla vs. King’ set for a May 29th, 2020 release!
