Back at New York Comic Con, footage from ‘War for the Planet of the Apes‘  was screened and now that it is been shown to the press, interesting details came out about one of the characters in it! The footage has shown the character in the image below who is a young girl played by Amiah Miller named Nova. For fans of the very first ‘Planet of the Apes’ movie, we’re talking about when Charlton Heston was a star, that is a name that could very well stick out to characters. In the original film, there was a woman named Nova played by Linda Harrison who was opposite Heston on the big screen and continued on in ‘Beneath the Planet of the Apes’.

Let’s take a look at her younger self in the following concept art:

According to director Matt Reeves:

“The battle is not just between the humans and the apes, but in Caesar’s soul. The girl is his pull back to his empathy and — for lack of a better word — his human side.”

Outside of Caesar, this is the strongest connection to the original franchise so far and makes you have to wonder if in the course of this single generation that humanity could devolve and the Apes finish evolving before returning to a semblance of the original film.

It will be interesting to see if the upcoming film further ties anything else back to the original movies as well.

Are you looking forward to watching the ‘War for the Planet of the Apes?’ Do you feel that throwing Nova into the mix is a good setup for the future or just a subtle nod to the past? Share your thoughts below!
