We’re all curious to see how ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story‘ stacks up when it is released and now one of the actors, Riz Ahmed (‘Jason Bourne’,’Four Lions’), has shared his controversial opinions of the prequel trilogy with the world. He actually quite enjoyed them for the most part. Honestly, his reasons for finding them enjoyable match up with the parts that I liked about the films as well. That being said, no matter how hard you try there is no getting over Jar Jar Binks, a young angst filled Anakin, or some of the multitude of other issues with the prequel trilogy to make it fully enjoyable.

Still, it had its moments and according to Ahmed, here’s the reason that the prequels worked:

“People say that, but I did not have a massive problem with the prequels at all. There were some elements that stood out. Jar Jar Binks, I didn’t enjoy him as a character. But people had a problem with them because they weren’t broad and tough and cheek. I enjoy that. I enjoy the fact that it was about grown-up politics and the dissolution of the League of Nations and World War and the rise of fascism. I really enjoyed that and I really enjoyed Clone Wars. I really don’t see what the big problem is, to be quite honest.”

I think much of the program was trying to do too much with too little. There was action, adventure, things for the kids, a political drama, a galactic civil war, a romance, and a slew of other stories and whatnot all tossed together. The prequel trilogy lacked a defined direction and almost could be thought of as trying to throw everything at the wall to see what would stick.

Sadly, it wasn’t the right approach. Thankfully, the new heads behind Disney seem to have a firm direction they want to run and if ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ and early reviews of ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ are any indication, they know what they’re doing.
