The wait is almost over!  It’s been three years since Marvel Entertainment and Netflix announced a slate of programs based on Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist.  Each hero would headline their own show before coming together as ‘The Defenders’.  But perhaps they weren’t prepared for the popularity of these programs.  After a stellar first season, Daredevil was given a second, which became available before either ‘Luke Cage’ or ‘Iron Fist”s first.  Then ‘Jessica Jones’ was also given a second season order.  Then after debuting on ‘Daredevil’ S2, ‘The Punisher’ was given a first season order.  Some thought ‘The Defenders’ might never happen.

But it is and it’s filming now!

Some set photos have hit the web thanks to Getty Images, showing Krysten Ritter reprising her role as Jessica Jones and coming face to face with Simone Missick‘s Misty Knight. You an check them out by clicking the image below:

In addition to Ritter, Missick, Charlie Cox (Daredevil/Matt Murdock), Mike Colter (Luke Cage) and Finn Jones (Iron Fist/Danny Rand), ‘The Defenders’ cast will also include supporting players Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple, Eka Darville as Malcolm Ducasse, Scott Glenn as Stick, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Rachel Taylor as Trish Walker, and Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page.

Sigourney Weaver has an unnamed villain role.  On IMDB, Jon Bernthal’s Punisher/Frank Castle is listed as appearing in all eight episodes as well.  Does that mean he’ll also be teaming up with the others?

Unlike the solo shows which consist of 13 episodes each, ‘The Defenders’ will only run for eight.  It also may not fall under the regular Marvel rotation which is typically two shows a year, one in the spring, one in the fall.  Presumably, those will be ‘Iron Fist’ and ‘The Punisher’.

Are getting excited now that you know ‘The Defenders’ is filming?
