Tom Holland is currently promoting ‘The Lost City Of Z’ which costars Charlie Hunnam and Robert Pattinson, but of course he can’t escape questions about ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’.  All (big white oval) eyes were on the teen actor when he made his debut in ‘Captain America: Civil War’ and for the most part, his performance got a huge (webbed) thumbs up from viewers.  So there’s a lot of excitement to see him take center stage in ‘Homecoming’ directed by Jon Watts, which just wrapped filming to be released next year.  And then?  Well, that’s a bit up in the air.

First, Holland admitted to some discomfort wearing Spidey’s skin-tight super suit, thus far, the most traditionally “comic book-y” costume to appear in a Marvel movie, which led Tony Stark to refer to it as a “onsie” and give him with the nickname “Underoos.”

“The suit’s not the greatest thing, but sometimes when it’s uncomfortable, you just have to remind yourself of the long list of actors that would love to be in that suit and you just go, ‘do you know what, f**k it. I’m the luckiest kid alive.  I deserve to be here and I’m going to give it my best.’”

Before ever slipping on the Spidey outfit, Holland posted several videos of himself showing off his natural gymnastic abilities.  Even so, Spider-Man would be the easiest superhero to replace with a stunt double.  But Holland insisted that it really is him in the suit for most of the scenes in ‘Homecoming’:

“I did as many [of the stunts] as I could, but there are some things legally that I couldn’t do.  There were stunt doubles who were all very, very talented guys who really supported me throughout the process. Whenever there was a stunt that I didn’t necessarily feel comfortable about, they would step in and show me how to do it, and coach me through the process.”

Now that Spider-Man is officially part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, most simply assumed he would pop up in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’.  After all, the comic book ‘Infinity War’ included nearly every Marvel superhero around and we already know that ‘Doctor Strange’ and possibly the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ will appear.  Unfortunately, Holland confesses that Spider-Man isn’t in the bag.

“It’s all up in the air.  I believe some sort of deal is in the mix, but I’m unclear as to what that deal is.”

Of course, that’s not a “no.”  We can still hope!

Will you be disappointed if Spidey doesn’t swing for the stars in ‘Infinity War’?

‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ starring Tom Holland, Zendaya, Tony Revolori, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Michael Keaton, Marisa Tomei, Martin Starr, Logan Marshall-Green, Donald Glover, Hannibal Buress, Kenneth Choi, Angourie Rice, Tyron Woodley, and Robert Downey Jr. hits theaters on July 7, 2017.
