AMC is sharing great news the week before the premiere of the seventh season of ‘The Walking Dead‘ as the network has just renewed the show for an eighth season! This should come as no surprise to fans of the runaway blockbuster as ratings just continue to climb and even with a cliffhanger that angered many they are predicting that the series will pick right up where the last season left off. Sadly, it is still too early to know which two characters won’t be making it into the eighth season after they are introduced to Lucille this coming Sunday night though with no one ever being safe on the show we could see a few other bodies pile up before the season is out.

The next season will kick off with the 100th episode of the show in late 2017, likely in October close to Halloween as they tend to do. It will be a 16-episode run and if ratings keep up will probably have a 9th season announcement just prior to it airing. Unsurprisingly, ‘The Talking Dead’ with Chris Hardwick will also return as the aftershow that just continues to infect new AMC series’.

Charlie Collier from AMC made the announcement by saying:

“Eeny, meeny, miny, more. What a joy to partner with Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple and some of the hardest-working people in television to bring The Walking Dead to the fans. And, most important, thanks to those fans for breathing life into this remarkable series right along with us.”

With the latest teaser from the series already potentially teasing The Whisperers, this could mean that the show will catch up to the comics sooner than later and finally branch out into fully original content instead of continuing to be inspired by the comics. Or, potentially be the same reversal of who gets spoilers on ‘Game of Thrones’ with upcoming story arcs been seen before read.
