While the first generation of Nike’s Power-Lace shoes are here, the batch is in a highly limited quantity and will be raffled out with all proceeds going to the Michael J. Fox Foundation. A great cause for sure, but more of a wait for the rest of us who are interested in checking out these shoes in person. Only 89 pairs of the Nike Mag were created and they’ll be raffled out at $10 a ticket from Tuesday, October 4th, 2016 to Monday, October 17th, 2016. For those unfamiliar with the foundation, Fox suffers from Parkinson’s disease and this foundation collects donations which are used in research to attempt to discover a cure.
The upside is that anyone can enter this raffle with no limit on the amount of tickets you can snag. Previously, 1500 pairs of an earlier version of these shoes were auctioned on Ebay in 2011 to also help the foundation. That set was just for looks though as they had yet to perfect the self-lacing aspect.
Fitting for the company, the first pair actually went to Micahel J. Fox on Future Day or, October 22nd, 2015, when his portrayal of Mary McFly was initially supposed to show up. Time travel and that many ‘Jaws’ films may not have happened but these self-lacing shoes have finally become a reality.
Are you going to try and enter the raffle to pick up an early pair of the Power-Lace shoes from Nike or will you be waiting until they are available in retail late next month? Share your thoughts below!
