Blair Witch‘ the almost secretive follow up to ‘The Blair Witch Project‘ was a film that many fans of the original enjoyed though we’ve just learned that the ending isn’t quite what we thought it was. The film was a great modern day reboot that was able to bring new viewers in and yet carry on the mythology that the original had started. We were given young adults stranded in the woods being picked off one.

So what about the ending weren’t we right about?

The final twenty minutes or so of the film had the surviving members of the expedition to find Heather from the first film being picked off individually by what apparently was the Blair Witch. A creature with longer appendages that if you looked at you died. While the very last death in the film seemed lazy with one character immediately following in the footsteps to death that another just had in the exact same way when she knew not to do it.

Annoying frustration about that very last scene aside, it was never the Blair Witch killing these kids.

Screenwriter Simon Barrett was answering questions about the film on Twitter and had this to say:

So it isn’t the witch. What is going on in the woods in that case? With the lower than expected box office returns, we may never know. The movie did make money but we’ll see if they want to give us a final outing to explain the witch and long-legged creature that we’ve seen. Of course, there is always the director’s commentary:

Honestly, to have to be told this through a Tweet and not have it at all straight forward hinted at in the film is kind of a letdown.

At first the group is hopeful, especially when a pair of locals offer to act as guides through the dark and winding woods, but as the endless night wears on, the group is visited by a menacing presence. Slowly, they begin to realize the legend is all too real and more sinister than they could have imagined.
