legends-of-tomorrow

When Hourman showed up from the Justice Society instead of Green Lantern in the finale of The CW’s ‘Legends of Tomorrow‘ we thought that the hero may not show up but Lance Henriksen (‘AVP: Alien vs. Predator’,’Aliens’) has confirmed that his character Obsidian is, in fact, Green Lantern’s Son! In the comics, fans know that Obsidian is Alan Scott’s son but with television shows constantly changing backgrounds and no mention of the Green Lantern Corps being brought up it was starting to seem like this might be one of those changes. Also, at the time this was still while DC was being pretty strict about their movie heroes and villains not really popping up in their television shows.

Thankfully, that line of thinking has changed.

The comics had Obsidian living with and abused by adoptive parents so he wasn’t always the most stable of characters and could go back and forth between being a hero or villain. From coming out to being a little harsher than some of our heroes it was interesting to find out how much would translate onto the small screen. Here’s what Henriksen reveals:

“It’s all in there. It’s all in there, every bit of it. Yeah, being Green Lantern’s son and all that stuff and him being gay is all in there. It’s treated, honestly, kind of ungently. It’s a real thing….Even one of my lines says ‘If you’re lucky enough to find love again, after anything has ever happened to you, well, embrace it.’ [Obsidian] says ‘Son, he’s waiting for me at home.'”

While that doesn’t mean that we’ll be seeing Alan Scott onscreen or just have his name dropped, it is good to know that Todd will be brought to life before our eyes as close to his comic book counterpart as possible.

Are you looking forward to Obsidian in ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ in the upcoming season? Do you think we’ll have Green Lantern show up as more than just a name drop? Share your thoughts below!

The second season of ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ will premiere on The CW this coming October 13th, 2016!
