We’ve recently learned that the studio behind the final installment in the ‘Divergent’ series titled ‘Ascendant‘ wants to bring it to TV due to a poor showing at the box office and series star Shailene Woodley (‘The Fault in Our Stars’,’The Descendants’) is having none of it. When ‘Allegiant‘, the third film opened to both low sales and critics panning the movie it seemed that Lionsgate felt a small screen TV movie with a spinoff series would be the way to go but actors from the franchise haven’t been thrilled about the idea.

In fact, none of them had been warned about a change of plans from film to television before the announcement even broke and Woodley has previously said she heard about it with the rest of us.

While out promoting ‘Snowden’ this change of venue came up and Woodley has stated that:

“Last I heard they were trying to make it into a television show. I didn’t sign up to be in a television show. Out of respect to the studio and everyone in involved, they may have changed their mind and may be doing something different, but I’m not necessarily interested in doing a television show.”

Both Miles Teller who plays Peter in the films and her have been quite vague about what they feel about returning. I’m sure much of it will have to do with funding, timing, and everything else involved. Even here Woodley is vague as to if she’ll be returning but it definitely sounds like if they go the TV route that she doesn’t sound interested in making a comeback.

Are you hoping that we still get ‘Divergent: Ascendant’ to finalize the story or did ‘Allegiant’ leave a bad taste in your mouth? Would a series based on this world be something that you’d be interested in checking out? Share your thoughts below!
