Take 'Warcraft' Home

Fans of ‘Warcraft‘ have been hoping that a director’s cut of the film would make it to a home release which would have the film grow into a cult following but sadly director Duncan Jones has smashed any hope of that. While you might think it was due poor box-office performance of the film or bad reviews which may have put a damper on a Director’s Cut it was actually a much straight forward reason. It looks like everything he was able to film and get done in production was already in the film.

According to Jones:

“A lot of people ask me, “When is the director’s cut coming out?” There will never be a director’s cut. With a film like this, where there are so many visual effects, every concession that you make you lose those shots. They cease to exist because the effects work never gets done. Some of it’s not even at that stage. You go through a writing stage right up to the deadline of shooting the thing. [You lose] ideas in the writing process. Then sets change for whatever reason and notes come in. You’re changing things around a three-and-a-half-year process. You get these little changes which are constantly course-correcting you. So there is no possibility of there ever being a director’s cut. It’s purely in my head.”

While more scenes were filmed and deleted scenes will be included in the home release there just wasn’t enough special effects done elsewhere to warrant how he would have changed things. With how much of the film was created digitally and how much work was done in post-production this honestly isn’t that much of a surprise.

A Director’s Cut of the film might have been the last chance for new material for quite some time as rumors that ‘Warcraft 2’ might only be a direct to DVD and VOD when it is released stateside.

Are you sad to hear that we’ll never see a Director’s Cut of ‘Warcraft’? Do you think it may have given us a stronger film? Share your thoughts below!

You can bring ‘Warcraft’ home on September 27th, 2016.
