Luke Skywalker Star Wars The Force Awakens mark hamill

After being largely absent in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, Luke Skywalker is lined up for a much bigger role in ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’. Presumably, we’ll see him take on the role of a mentor for Rey in Rian Johnson’s upcoming tale from a galaxy far, far away. But what’s in store for the farm boy-turned-Jedi beyond that film? Will Master Skywalker even make it through the events of the second chapter of the new trilogy? A new post from the actor behind the lightsaber may give us a hint.

Mark Hamill recently took to Twitter to share an interesting video of the beloved ‘Star Wars’ icon shaving off his beard. As the post indicates, this is the first time that he has been without facial hair since May 2015. However, the most notable thing about the video is “at least until #EpisodeIX”. Does this mean that Skywalker is definitely surviving ‘Episode VIII’, unlike fellow original character Han Solo? It’s hard to say at this point, but check out the tweet below so you can read into it more:

It’s important to note that Luke Skywalker making it to ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ doesn’t guarantee that he’ll make it there alive. As we’ve seen in the past, Jedi Masters have appeared in the ‘Star Wars’ movies as force ghosts after they have met their ends. But we’re getting pretty far ahead of ourselves at this point since a lot can happen between now and 2019, which is when Colin Trevorrow’s offering to the saga is set to hit theaters.

Do you think that Luke Skywalker will definitely be making it to ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’? What do you think the chances are that he’ll make it there alive? And what do you think about Mark Hamill’s playful video that sparked this discussion? Let us know in the comments.
