walking-dead

The Walking Dead‘ is a ratings juggernaut that seems like it won’t be going off the air anytime soon but someday far in the future showrunner Scott Gimple believes that these walkers may, in fact, infect the big screen. I wouldn’t count on it happening at any point soon, but if it did, it will likely be a rebooted set of films and Gimple seems to feel the same way.

In a recent interview, Gimple was asked if it might be possible to one day see ‘The Walking Dead’ as a movie:

“That question comes up every now and again. I’m sure one way or another, one day, it’ll happen. I think it would be cool.”

It’s hard to say if we’d see Gimple on board as a producer or some kind of consulting capacity but he clearly isn’t against the idea once his run with the series comes to an end. It is doubtful that it would happen before that and he jokingly reveals who he’d like to see cast in the film:

“William Shatner as Rick. We’ll get Edward James Olmos as Daryl. Hit all the big shows! Matthew Fox as the Governor!”

Sounds like a geek nightmare casting for the movies. That being said, I believe Olmos would make an amazing addition in some capacity or another and Gimple had better get on that!

The idea is a fun one though fans might not be happy not seeing Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus in leading roles. A film could be a fun way to tell side stories to the main events from the series but as it would unlikely happen during the ongoing show it is doubtful we could see any of the stars showing up for it.

I wonder if they went the cinematic route if they would strictly stick to the source material and how far into the graphic novels they would have them actually go?

Would you be interested in a ‘The Walking Dead’ reboot once the show has run it’s course or do you feel that it won’t end until we’ve all been fully exhausted with the idea of zombies? Share your thoughts below!
