Galen-Erso-Star-Wars-Rogue-One-header

An important point to keep in mind in the modern age of film is just how important the international market is, as many movies make the majority of their profits overseas, as the domestic market does not have the same sized audiences as the rest of the world. With that in mind, hot on the release of the first domestic trailer for ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,’ Disney/ Lucasfilm have released a new international trailer for the newest entry in the ‘Star Wars’ saga, which teases some additional information about the film.

First of all though, just so you (the reader) does not get their hopes up, this is another classic “new” trailer situation, where the actual trailer is comprised of about ninety percent of footage we have already seen (from the teaser trailer, the Celebrations footage, and the domestic trailer), and maybe around ten percent new footage, or just extensions of footage we have already seen. Check it out for yourself below:

So what is the big deal about the international trailer you might ask? There is one line in particular that has people interested, which is where Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) tells Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) about a message about an imminent weapons test that was “sent by your father.” Now, we had already known that Mads Mikkelsen was cast as Jyn’s estranged dad, Galen Erso, but this sheds some new light on their relationship, especially since we know her character has been on her own since she was a teenager. Could this mean that ‘Rogue One’ will be fleshed out with some parental drama between Jyn and Galen Erso? Is the mission to steal the plans to the Death Star secondary to Jyn wanting to save her father from the Empire’s clutches? Or could her father be leading her and her rebel friends into a trap?

Who knows at this point, but it is fun to speculate. Do you have any theories on what this could mean for ‘Rogue One?’ Or do you think it is a minute detail and people are making a big deal about nothing? Share your opinions in the comments below!
