While this isn’t the official word from the studios or those involved in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, director James Gunn (‘Guardians of the Galaxy’,’Slither’) doesn’t believe that we’ll be seeing Marvel’s cinematic and televised universes crossing over again anytime in the near future on the big screen.

During a recent Q&A on his official Facebook page the question came up and he chimed in when someone asked if the Netflix characters could appear in the ultimate Avengers crossover movie. While fans of the comic would almost expect to see the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Shang-Chi, and The Punisher all show up – Gunn doesn’t feel that it is likely to happen.

His exact response:

“I don’t think we’re going to see much interactions between the Marvel TV universe and the MCU in the near future.”

While Gunn doesn’t claim to have seen the work in progress script we do know that Marvel’s Cinematic Universe has quite an inclusive working environment for their writers as he’s already read ‘Thor 3: Ragnarok’ and the Russos and their writing team have had a chance to read ‘Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2‘ due to the collaborative process that Marvel has in keeping their universe intertwined.

While Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb insists that “It’s all connected” we’ve seen for some time that there is a disconnect between Netflix, ABC, and Marvel’s MCU and hopefully we’ll see ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ be the film that brings everything back together.

At least on the television side we’ve learned that ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ still regards the movies as canon as it will take place directly after the events in ‘Captain America: Civil War’.

Sadly, after Gunn’s quote, I won’t be holding my breath.

Do you think that James Gunn has some inside knowledge or is he just trying to keep one of the best secrets that Marvel Studios has pulled off to date?
