Now that they have added ‘Supergirl’ to their weekly programming, The CW is the place to find all your favorite live-action DC Comics superheroes on television. But the Girl of Steel won’t only be joined by the titular protagonists of ‘Arrow’, ‘The Flash’, and ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ on that channel. The network has recently announced a number of new additions to the returning shows that are sure to have some major impact on the Arrowverse (which is rumored to include the former CBS show following the events of Flashpoint).
First, the Justice Society of America has tapped a sci-fi and horror veteran to join their ranks. According to Comic Book Resources, Lance Henriksen of ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’, ‘The Terminator’, ‘Aliens’, ‘Pumpkinhead’, and more will join ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ as Obsidian. The hero with the ability to inhabit shadows and pass through solid objects will stand alongside fellow JSA members Patrick J. Adams as Hourman, Maisie Richardson-Sellers as Vixen, Matthew MacCaull as Commander Steel, and Sarah Grey as Star Girl during the next adventure featuring the crew of the Waverider.
Moving on to National City, Kara Danvers will meet a couple of rather interesting new friends from out of town. Really far out of town actually since they both from different planets. For starters, Comic Book Movie revealed that ‘The Vampire Diaries’ and ‘The Carrie Diaries’ star Chris Woods will play Mon-El, who is initially mistaken for Kryptonian due to his powers, but is actually from a planet called Daxam. The hero also has close ties to the Legion of Superheroes, a group that has previously been teased on ‘The Flash’ that may or may not factor into the future of this shared universe.
Joining Mon-El will be a fan favorite character best known for her involvement in Cartoon Network’s acclaimed animated series ‘Young Justice’. After introducing the Martian Manhunter during season one, Comic Book Movie tells us that Miss Martian will join her uncle on ‘Supergirl’. The Wrap tells us that M’gann M’orzz (or Megan, as she is typically known on Earth) will be portrayed Sharon Leal of the 2006 cinematic adaptation of the hit musical ‘Dreamgirls’ and ‘Grimm’.
Finally, after adding all these heroes, we have a new villain entering the fray. Entertainment Weekly is reporting that legendary action star Dolph Lundgren is headed to ‘Arrow’ to take place in the season five flashbacks set in Russia. Presumably part of the Bratva, the former Ivan Drago and Frank Castle will play a character named Kovar. Not much else is known about the rogue at this time, but he’s likely to have caused some serious trouble for Oliver Queen back in the day.
What do you think about these new cast members for ‘Supergirl’, ‘Arrow’, and ‘Legends of Tomorrow’? Which one are you most excited to see in action? Let us know in the comments.
