Based on the amount of hype surrounding ‘Luke Cage’ this week, every True Believer could anticipate that we were going to get the premiere of the first trailer for Cheo Hodari Coker’s upcoming Marvel/Netflix series starring Mike Colter as the indestructible hero of Harlem at San Diego Comic-Con. What they could not have been expecting, however, was the debut of the first teaser for Cage and Jones’ team up with the Man Without Fear and the Living Weapon of K’un-Lun.

Following their SDCC panel this evening, Netflix unveiled the first teaser for ‘The Defenders‘ on their YouTube channel. The limited series will see Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist team up to face a threat unlike any they’ve seen before on the streets of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Unfortunately, none of them are seen in this brief preview. Instead, after the logo for the show is revealed to the tune of ‘Come As You Are’ by Nirvana, Scott Glenn reprises his role as Stick from ‘Daredevil’ to give the team his unique brand of optimism by saying, “You think the four of you can save New York? You can’t even save yourselves.” You can check it out for yourself in the video below:

Though an exact date has not been set for the show’s premiere on the popular streaming service, it’s a safe bet that we’ll be seeing it in our queues during the second half of 2017. But of course, that is more likely to get confirmed with an actual date once showrunners Marco Ramirez and Doug Petrie (who also serve as showrunners on ‘Daredevil’) start rolling on the epic team-up. Untill then, what do you think about the first teaser for ‘The Defenders’? What role do you think Stick plays in this whole thing? And what threat is so great that these four heroes must work together? Share your thoughts and theories in the comments.
